Welcome to Kin-nection

PEOPLE DESERVE KINSHIP AND SUPPORT NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE IN THE WORLD

We are a collective of professional therapists and interpreters who are committed to providing intercultural and language appropriate care to newcomers. Emotional support after migrating to a new country is often hard to find; even more difficult to find in your home language. Our goal is to provide access to professional healers and professional interpreters who are intercultural experts so that you can speak in the language that feels most at home for you wherever is convenient for you.

"Home is not where you were born, it is where all of your attempts to escape cease."

- Omar Tehar

What we do for newcomers

Access to Healing and Therapy

In Your Own Language

Healing comes in different forms. We strive to include both access to evidenced based practices and to healing practices that have existed for centuries in cultures around the globe.

We know what it’s like when you can't express yourself in your home language and we know how important that is for people. We provide access to bilingual therapists or interpreters who can serve as a language specialist and as an intercultural bridge.

What we do for our collective

Training for Interpreters

All interpreters are welcomed. We offer free courses online so that you can learn at your own pace. Interpreters who are part of our collective can learn about mental health interpreting, refugee and migrant mental health, and how to care for yourself while doing this work. We strive to create a community of professionals who can support each other while supporting others.

Training for Healers

All therapy practitioners are welcome. If you have not had training on how to work with interpreters, we got you. We provide free online courses so that you can familiarize yourself with remote therapy, learn how to work with interpreters and about refugee mental health. We also strive to provide a community of healers who can support each other while supporting others.

I'm a (therapist/interpreter).
I want to help but I don't know how.

Start here.

I've heard of
remote therapy and in-person therapy using an interpreter.
But how do they work together?

Let us demonstrate.

I'm a (newcomer/refugee advocate) and I would like to connect with a therapist.
